Dropped off the face of the earth again

(Sigh) I hear all about game developers’ insane schedules.  I believe them.  I just can’t figure out how all these guys maintian their blogs so well.  Things go a bit nuts here at work and I’m out of commission for over a month.

How the heck do they do it?

Ok, it’s not just work.

So… what’s been going on here?

Well, work’s a big part of it- process improvement reviews, design documents, style guides… occasionally I actually get to code, too.

I also decided to focus on health this summer- been bicycling to work.  Now, before any of you 2-hour commuters remark how good this is, realize that I’m less than 5 miles from work and it’s mostly downhill coming in.  Going home, I get to shave off most of the vertical climb thanks to our inclined plane.  That’s good.  My hand-me-down bike-e is an incredibly comfortable ride, but not really optimal for large hill climbing.

Game-wise:

Still playing City of Heroes  with Jenn.  Still enjoying it, particularly with Issue 9’s addition of “inventions” and the consignment house / black market (villain side).  I haven’t even gotten around to half my alts and Issue 10’s looming on the horizon already.

Issue 10 looks promising- a Rikti second invasion, complete with revamped zone, story arcs, art sets, and a worldwide invasion event.  Only downside is that I have three screenshot comics with “flashbacks” to the first invasion that I need to have shot before the new artset overrides the old look.

Oh, yeah.  About those comics:

I won best story.

So… yeah, I’m really pushing myself to do some more.  Have about 4-5 stories in the concept stage, but they’ll likely need butchering if I can’t do the scenes I want with the game assets.  We’ll see.

In the prize package I’ve managed to get a 7950GT-256 HDCP PCI Express Graphics Card.  A very nice card, and welcome improvement… except my current system is still AGP.   I know it’s time for an upgrade but I’m just not sure about investing in a barebones system just for this card.  The games I play run fine on my current system, and if I wait a little longer, a system with a DirectX10-compatible card might be a bit more reasonable.

Then again… I’m a technophile turning down an upgrade… ugh!

Well, if I decide to sell it, I’ll post here first.

No problem on the infrequent blogging, man. At your leisure. I still check the site at least a couple times a week in case you spring a new article on me.
